Feedback wanted on Speed Management Plan changes

The South Taranaki District Council is inviting feedback on proposed speed limit changes in South Taranaki.

Traffic volume and pedestrian activity have increased and will continue to due to rapid residential and commercial development in Hāwera, particularly around Glover Road, Turuturu Road, and the South Taranaki Business Park

South Taranaki District Councils senior policy advisor Anne Sattler says the proposed speed limit changes will create safer environments for residents, businesses, and schools while supporting community wellbeing and economic growth.

“Additional proposals include variable speed limits around marae to respect cultural practices and adjustments to rural school zones to better reflect local conditions” she says.

These changes aim to improve road safety, protect vulnerable road users, and ensure compliance with the Land Transport Rule: Setting of Speed Limits 2024.

Public consultation runs from Monday 1 December 2025 to Friday 30 January 2026.

Anyone can make a submission on the proposed changes online or by picking up a paper copy at any of the South Taranaki District LibraryPlus centres, or Hāwera Administration Building.

Residents, schools, marae, and businesses are encouraged to have their say.
