Summer Blast Holiday Reading Programme
We’re powering up for another high impact season of reading with this year’s LibraryPlus’ Summer Blast holiday reading programme.
Summer Blast is a six-week programme designed for tamariki aged 5 to 12, building positive reading habits by encouraging at least 15 minutes of reading a day and three check ins at your local LibraryPlus. Children who complete the programme by the end of January will receive a free book to take home.
Registrations open Monday 8 December, just pop into your local LibraryPlus to register. The first check in needs to be completed before Christmas to secure one of the limited spots in the programme.
Council’s senior community outreach librarian Hannah Hancock says there’s activities galore throughout December and January in each of the seven LibraryPlus centres around the District. The fun continues into February with Bird Life Productions sessions, adding an extra layer of excitement to the programme.
“Keeping reading alive over the summer is a strategic investment in our tamariki,” says Hannah. “When kids stay connected to books, they stay confident, curious and ready to hit the ground running when school starts again. Summer Blast helps prevent the reading slide and keeps young minds switched on right through the break.”
