Ronald Hugh Morrieson Literary Competition Open

The 2026 Lysaght-Watt Trust Ronald Hugh Morrieson Literary Awards officially launched on Wednesday, 10 June with the official opening being celebrated alongside secondary schools. Free public workshops with the judges will be held on Saturday 20 June, offering a great opportunity to gain insights and feedback.

If you are interested in entering the Short Story (open and secondary school categories), Poetry (open and secondary school categories) or True Story (formerly Research – Secondary School only) section, start getting your pen to paper.

There are cash prizes up for grabs, and the opportunity to have your work read by acclaimed short story judge Tracey Slaughter, poet judge Glenn Colquhoun and local Taranaki Daily News editor Matt Rilkoff.
