Scale Ship Regatta returns to King Edward Park for 30th anniversary
Model boats of all types and sizes will once again take to the waters of King Edward Park over Labour Weekend, as Hāwera hosts its annual Scale Ship Regatta on 24 and 25 October 2026.
Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, the regatta has become a much-loved tradition, attracting model boat enthusiasts from across the North Island. The event continues to grow, with skilled captains bringing an impressive range of scale vessels to showcase on the lake.
Warships, tugboats, fishing vessels and racing yachts are just some of the beautifully crafted models that will be on display and operated using sophisticated remote-control systems. Participants are always happy to share their knowledge and passion for the hobby with spectators, offering a fascinating insight into the design, construction and operation of the craft.
South Taranaki District Council Events Coordinator Hannah Hancock says the regatta is a wonderful opportunity for families to spend time in the award-winning King Edward Park while enjoying a unique and entertaining event.
"The Scale Ship Regatta has been a highlight of the local events calendar for three decades and continues to bring together people of all ages," says Hannah.
"Pack a picnic, find a spot by the lake and enjoy watching these incredible model boats in action. It's also the perfect excuse to take a stroll through our beautiful gardens and make the most of everything King Edward Park has to offer."
