Council is proud to provide towns around the district with community pools, free of charge, that open during the summer months (from early December - Taranaki Anniversary at the beginning of March). These pools are upgraded regularly and are amazing facilities to offer our residents.
All community summer pools are open, and patrolled, Monday – Friday 3.30pm – 7pm (during the school term) and from 12noon – 7pm during school holidays and weekends and from 12noon - 6pm on public holidays. Please note that the pools close at 5pm on Christmas and New Year's Eve and they are closed on Christmas Day. The pools are available to hire outside public hours by arrangement.

History of the Old Pool
The original Pātea swimming pool complex was located on Stafford Street, Pātea.
The original pools complex was built in 1945 and consisted of a 33.3 yard pool with learners and toddlers pools
The pools were outdoor cold water pools and operated during summer season.
The Pātea community opted to look for a new site located closer to the schools which both now are located south of state highway 3. The north east corner of the Pātea domain was the preferred site.
In May 2012 the new pool project was started with W&W Construction Ltd Whanganui being the principal contractor.
The project was completed and the new pool complex opened 12 December 2012.

History of the Pool
The original Rawhitiroa swimming pool complex was located Horoi Road, Rawhitiroa
The pool was built as a memorial for the war. There are no further protections of these memorial buildings.
For the non-human swimmers out there, a Dog Splash Day is held at the Kaponga community pool complex on the last day of the season before the pools are drained. Something fun for dogs and their humans alike. Put it in your diary now – it’s held each year on Taranaki Anniversary.
