Food premises
Wāhi kai
Everyone working in the food industry has a responsibility to make sure that the food we buy is safe and suitable to eat.
If you are thinking of opening your own food business in South Taranaki you need to understand and follow an appropriate Food Control Plan or National Programme under the Food Act 2014. The plan or programme that will apply to you depends on the nature of your food business. To find out which plan suits your business see the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) My Food Rules tool, or call (06) 278 0555 or 0800 111 323 to talk to one of our Environmental Health Officers.
Once you have a plan or programme in place and have completed an application to register your food business, you will need to get everything verified to ensure you are making and selling safe and suitable food.
