South Taranaki Water Services In-House Business Unit
The South Taranaki District Council is in the process of establishing a Water Services In-House Business Unit (IBU), as outlined in our approved Water Services Delivery Plan, to manage the delivery of drinking water, wastewater and stormwater services on behalf of the communities of South Taranaki. The IBU will be fully operational by 1 July 2027.
The IBU is being established as part of the Government's Local Water Done Well reforms, which require councils to strengthen the governance, management, financial transparency and performance reporting of water services.
The IBU remains part of South Taranaki District Council and is responsible for:
- Providing safe and reliable drinking water services.
- Managing wastewater collection, treatment and disposal services.
- Managing stormwater infrastructure and services.
- Planning and delivering investment in water services infrastructure.
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Managing water services finances and reporting.
- Delivering long-term sustainable water services for current and future communities.
Water Services Information Disclosure 2026
The South Taranaki District Council is required to publicly disclose water services information under the Commerce Commission’s Water Services Information Disclosure Determination 2026.
